Myofascial Release is a hands-on soft tissue technique that facilitates a stretch into the restricted fascia with the purpose of releasing tensions and tissue restrictions in the body. Fascia is a tough connective tissue that spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web that extends without interruption from the top of the head to the tip of the toes. This tissue covers the muscles, bones, nerves, organs, and vessels down to the cellular level. Therefore, malfunction of the system due to trauma, poor posture, or inflammation can bind down the fascia, resulting in abnormal pressure on any or all of these body components causing pain and discomfort.
Myofascial/Osseous Integration is the combination of Myofascial Release and osseous mobilization with the aim of restoring bony alignment. This is done by utilizing the osseous structures as handles or levers to free the skeletal structures and the surrounding environment; facilitating change and optimal functioning of the myofascial complex. These techniques are performed very slowly following the fascial releases in a three-dimensional manner like taffy untwisting and stretching. Myofascial Release and Myofascial/Osseous Integration techniques are safe and highly effective in reducing pain and restoring motion and optimal function.
Common indications for Myofascial Release:
- Back strain, chronic back pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Chronic neck pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Headache / Migraine
- Plantar fasciitis
- External and Internal Scar Release
- Thoracic outlet syndrome
- TMJ dysfunction
- Trigger points
